Auto repair in the United States is split between independent shops, dealership service departments and national chains. Independents handle most routine work (oil changes, brakes, tune-ups, check-engine diagnostics) at lower labor rates and often specialize in one make or in imports; dealers keep factory tools, software and warranty authority; chains sell speed and standard pricing on maintenance items. Most shops charge a diagnostic fee, credited toward the repair if you go ahead, and quote parts and labor separately. Certification matters: look for ASE-certified technicians and, in many states, a state repair license posted at the counter. Written estimates are required by law in most states before work begins, and you are entitled to your old parts if you ask.

Absolutely the worst service I've ever had. I can't believe that this place is still in business. Do not go here. He never looked at me, or acknowledged me in any way while I was waiting for service. I heard the way he treated the man in front of me so I left. So rude. Just awful.

This mechanic is rude. Will not greet you or even treat you like he wants you to be a returning customer. He failed my vehicle after my vehicle failed the visual test. Made me wait through the entire test even after he already failed it. Oh, why did he fail it? Aftermarket air intake, that has the CARB sticker on it, making it LEGAL in California. Picture added just for proof. Don't come here.

Very disappointed with this smog check station. Before they started the test, I specifically told them that I was not sure my vehicle would pass and asked if they could check the situation before generating an official failure report. Instead of explaining the process or warning me about the consequences, they immediately took my money, performed the test, and issued a failed report. The staff knew there was a high chance the vehicle would not pass, yet they never informed me that once the test started, a failure would be recorded. It feels like they were only interested in collecting the fee rather than helping the customer make an informed decision. I paid over $60 just to receive a failure report that I was trying to avoid in the first place. Poor communication, no transparency, and a very disappointing customer experience. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for honest advice before a smog inspection.

I came back for another smog test because I had such a good experience here last time. Pete is a true gentleman—efficient, professional, and polite. I used a Groupon, and at some shops that can make you feel less welcome, but not here. They treated me just as well as any other customer. Highly recommended!

Quick service but very disappointed in the mechanic’s behavior. He said his name was AJ. There was a lady getting her car checked before mine, she mentioned she had the groupon deal for $39. I had found the 20% coupon for Smog Time but the groupon one was better so I presented the coupon when it was my turn. As he was checking my car, another young lady walked in for her smog check so I mentioned there’s a good deal on groupon. Just trying to help another person out as we are all struggling these days in this economy. Once I paid, AJ pulled me aside and said this word for word “You know telling other people about groupon is not nice. I could’ve failed your test, I have my ways. I want the owner to make money but since I believe in karma I passed your test.” I politely responded that we “are all struggling” and he continued to put blame on me for sharing the deal and called me “sneaky” when I was just trying to help another person out. I ended up leaving the shop crying. Not okay. There are deals online for a reason, for people to use them. I will not be coming back here!
